چکیده

We examine the reprocessing of X-ray radiation from compact objects by accretion disks when the X-ray emission from the star is highly beamed. The reprocessed flux for various degrees of beaming and inclinations of the beam axis with respect to the disk is determined. We find that, in the case where the beam is produced by a non-relativistic object, the intensity of the emitted spectrum is highly suppressed if the beam is pointing away from the disk. However, for beams produced by compact objects, general relativistic effects cause only a small reduction in the reradiated flux even for very narrow beams oriented perpendicularly to the disk. This is especially relevant in constraining models for the anomalous X-ray pulsars, whose X-ray emission is highly beamed. We further discuss other factors that can influence the emission from disks around neutron stars.

Warped product and quasi-Einstein metrics

Warped products provide a rich class of physically significant geometric objects. Warped product construction is an important method to produce a new metric with a base manifold and a fibre. We construct compact base manifolds with a positive scalar curvature which do not admit any non-trivial quasi-Einstein warped product, and non compact complete base manifolds which do not admit any non-triv...

Limits on the density of compact objects from high redshift supernovae

Due to the effects of gravitational lensing, the magnification distribution of high redshift supenovae can be a powerful discriminator between smooth dark matter and dark matter consisting of compact objects. We use high resolution N-body simulations in combination with the results of simulations with compact objects to determine the magnification distribution for a Universe with an arbitrary f...

Multi fluidity and Solitary wave stability in cold quark matter: core of dense astrophysical objects

Considering the magneto-hydrodynamic equations in a non-relativistic multi uid framework, we study the behavior of small amplitude perturbations in cold quark matter. Magneto-hydrodynamic equations, along with a suitable equation of state for the cold quark matter, are expanded using the reductive perturbation method. It is shown that in small amplitude approximation, such a medium should be co...

Constraining the Cosmological Density of Compact Objects with the Long-Term Variability of Quasars

By comparing the results from numerical microlensing simulations to the observed long-term variability of quasars, strong upper limits on the cosmological density of compact objects in the 10−4 M⊙–1 M⊙ range may in principle be imposed. Here, this method is generalized from the Einstein-de Sitter universe to the currently favored ΩM = 0.3, ΩΛ = 0.7 cosmology and applied to the latest observatio...

Masses of Compact Galactic Objects

Andrew Gould (Ohio state University) and B. Scott Gaudi (Ohio state University) 5 Using the technique of gravitational microlensing, SIM Lite will conduct a representative census of all compact Galactic objects from brown dwarfs to black holes, including white dwarfs, neutron stars, and main sequence stars. The masses of these objects will be derived from a combination of precise measurement of...
